BAD SAULGAU – There is much to discover in the Fähre Museum exhibition “Self-Portrait and Other Riddles” which finally opened, and should have opened on the 3rd of April. Self-portraits, portraits, figure paintings and group scenes in life size are presented, the work of four female and four male artists, most of whom are shown here for the first time. It is an exhibition with completely different impressions, which is very thought provoking.
Pavel Feinstein (born in Moscow in 1960) receives you there with familiar motifs: the puzzling still lives of 2003 with large wrapped fish as well as with open mouths, on the perspective of the observer changes now in the time of Corona; but also with three small self-portraits from 1990, 2014 and 2020. …
In the portrait of Roni Taharlev the visitor discovers a brilliant portraitist. The female painter (born in Israel in 1964) is also represented with several portraits of a young man in woman’s clothes, and an extraordinary hermaphroditic “Annunciation”.
